Best of HR Happy Hour - Number 5: 'HR Horror Stories'

This week as we are counting down to the 100th Episode of the HR Happy Hour show, (Thursday, May 19th at 8:00pm ET),  I thought it would be a good idea to look back through the archive of the first 99 shows to pick out my personal favorite Top 5 shows from the first two years of the HR Happy Hour. One, because it is fun to look back on some of the early shows, and two, for some of the show's newer fans, it would be a chance to perhaps introduce them to some of the older shows they may have missed.

So without further ado, today we will start at Number 5 on our countdown, Episode 15 - 'HR Horror Stories' - original air date October 22, 2009.

As this show was close to Halloween, the craziness, insanity, and general 'Did they actually just say that?' were in full effect. Bizarre interview tales, employee relations nightmares, and some stories that were so surreal I think my ears and sensitivities are still a little scarred.

Why I place this show in my Top 5 is that while certainly being fun, funny, and entertaining, it also kind of felt like we had come a long way in developing the kind of community of HR professionals that were becoming comfortable being really open, honest, and a bit unguarded. And also because some of the stories were simply outrageous.

So in case you are new to the show, or even if perhaps you do remember all the way back to Episode 15, I hope you will give it another listen.

Last year's HR Horror Stories show was epic. All manner of inappropriate workplace behavior, shocking antics from employees, and any number of candidate misadventures were recalled on the show that night.  The tales were so incredible, that an employee that actually used her, shall we say, feminine charms to earn change for the vending machine wasn't even the most shocking tale of the night.

So listeners of the HR Happy Hour show - you are hereby issued the challenge - bring your best (and worst) stories from your HR careers, and your workplace experiences to share on the HR Horror stories show.  It is all fair game, and since you know you are dying to share some of these stories, you may as well share them with us.

And, if we don't get enough Horror Stories, I'll spend the entire show talking about basketball, and believe me, almost no one wants that.

Episode 15 - The Happy Recap

Episode 15 - October 22, 2009 - 'HR Horror Stories'

This was by far the wildest, craziest, and most flat-out fun show yet.

The Horror Story show was full of tales of candidates dying during the job interview (no, I mean actually dying), some classic workplace porn stories, and assorted other incredible workplace transgressions.

So if you need a good laugh, want to bond virtually with some of your HR colleagues, or just want to hear about a job candidate crapping his pants during the interview, then this is the show for you.

Have a listen, but be duly warned, this show is not for the squeamish.
