Recap - Episode 51 - 'Live from Gettysburg'

HR Happy Hour - Episode 51 - 'Live from Gettysburg'

Original air date - Thursday June 24, 2010

Listen to internet radio with Steve Boese on Blog Talk Radio

This show, was broadcast from the historic Antrim 1844 Inn located in Taneytown, MD, just a bit down the road from the historic battlefield at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

I was in the Gettysburg area attending The Conference Board Leadership Experience as a guest of the Board. The Leadership Experience is an experiential leadership development program that uses the Battle of Gettysburg, and the leaders that shaped the outcomes of the battle, as a metaphor for assessing and improving participant's own leadership capabilities in the corporate world.

On the show we were joined by Jeff Jackson of The Conference Board, as well as Colonel Cole Kingseed, military historian and one of the event facilitators. We talked about the battle, some of the important leadership lessons from the events in 1863, and about the critical importance of leaders in the modern corporate world.

I hope you can take some time to listen to what was a fun and interesting show.

Updates from Show HQ

It has been a while since I gave an update of what has been happening at HR Happy Hour World Headquarters, so I thought a quick rundown of what has been going on, and what is coming up was in order.

So here we go:

1. The 'Show Archives' page (a little link on the site header that is cleverly called 'Show Archives') is finally up to date. You can use the Show Archives page to find a link to all of the past shows.  Clicking any individual show link on that page will open a show page that will have some show details, and a little player widget that you can use to listen to the show.

2. Shauna created a Facebook Fan Page for the HR Happy Hour show.  Thanks Shauna!  If you like please consider becoming a fan.  We will post previews and links to listen to the show there, and you can also submit ideas for guest and topics.  We are always looking for good ideas for future shows.

3. We have a spiffy new show logo!  Take a look:

happyhour_logo_vertical1(2)Very slick, don't you think?

4. We are hoping to take the show 'on the road' in 2010, look for updates here and on the Facebook page as well.  We have a couple of events booked and are always open to discussing how the show can help and add some fun and interest to your event or conference. Let us know if that is something you are interested in.

5. Next week the show will broadcast live from trulondon2 in London, England.  The specific show date/time has not been set yet, but look for an announcement here soon (and on Twitter/Facebook). Oh yeah, we do have an HR Happy Hour Twitter account as well, please give us a follow!

Lastly, many thanks from Shauna and I for listening, tweeting, supporting and making the show so much fun for us.  Please let us know how we are doing, and what we can do to make the show more interesting and valuable to you.

See you in London!

The Winner of The Best HR City is...

We had a great time on the HR Happy Hour show tonight, with 'The Best HR City' show.

After taking a record number of calls, hearing some impassioned support for their cities, and overcoming a few more caller debacles (WE CAN HEAR YOU), the decision was reached.

The Best HR City is.........

CINCINNATI

Yes, the long time supporter of the HR Happy Hour Show and hotbed of HR and Recruiting awesomeness has won this prestigious honor.

As promised, Shauna and I will be taking the HR Happy Hour show on the road, (and getting free pizza), sometime in 2010.

Congrats to the 513 and also to the first runner-up Minneapolis and second runner-up Portland. In the event that Cincinnati can't fulfill their duties as 'Best HR City' then Minny - you are up.

Thanks everyone who called in to the show (we had the most calls ever) and to all the Tweets and comments.

The 513 Rocks!
