This week on the show, the great Paul Hebert guest hosts and welcomes Derek Irvine, Vice President Client Strategy and Consulting for Globoforce, and author of 'Winning With a Culture of Recognition', for a look at how culture impacts organizational performance.

Culture and culture management have had increased attention in the last few years as an important driver of employee engagement and company performance. This week on the show Paul and Derek will take a closer look at culture and discuss topics around -

What is company culture?

Can company culture be defined and managed?

What is proactive culture management?

Does culture really 'beat' strategy as we often hear?

What companies really understand this and are doing a great job with culture management?

Culture is always a lively topic on the show and this week I hope you can join Paul and Derek for what will surely be an interesting and informative show.

It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show join host Steve Boese with special guests Ryan Estis and Don MacPherson, we will talk about passion. Not the kind that we think about when talking about our favorite hobby or sports team, but the kind of passion that can be tapped in to when you know you are doing the kind of work that is engaging and meaningful, with people that you enjoy and respect, and where you can clearly see how your efforts are contributing to a higher cause.

How can leaders begin to create the kind of environment where people really want to work, where they can achieve great results, and can finally start to give us more examples of fantastic and transformative cultures so we can stop talking about Zappos all the time?  It is a big subject, but I know with Ryan and Don we should be able to kick the topic around and get you off to the right start.

So make sure to join guests Ryan and Don for a challenging and entertaining look at passion, engagement, culture and more.

It should be a great show and I hope you can join us!

Best of the HR Happy Hour 2010 - Part I

As 2010 winds down I thought I would look back on some of the highlights of the HR Happy Hour show  in 2010 to acknowledge and remember some of the great guests and topics we covered this year.

Each day this week we will look back on one of the best or most interesting shows from each quarter of 2010, starting today with Episode 28, a show from January 28, 2010 - 'Chief Culture Officer' with our guest, the author of Chief Culture Officer, Grant McCracken. This was a bit of a departure from the usual 'HR' talk on the show, but I think was one of the best shows of the year.

Listen back to the show from the show page here - or using the widget player below.

This was a really interesting and informative show discussing the importance of the understanding of culture and making meaning from that understanding in a corporate context. Trends, popular culture, patterns in living and working, demographics, all these and more impact the way we live and work, and applying a reasoned and anthropology-based approach in the corporate setting were discussed on the show.

Have a listen if you missed this one, or take a re-listen, and let us know what you think.
