Listen to internet radio with Steve Boese on Blog Talk Radio

Our long national nightmare is finally over.

No, I am not talking about the Republican campaign for the Presidential nomination, but the NBA lockout that for a time flirted with what would have been a disastrous cancellation of the 2011-2012 NBA season. But at the last minute a deal was made, and in the words of the legendary Walt Frazier, their will be swishin' and dishin' and posting and toasting in the NBA this year.

Now that the labor issues are settled, and (most of) the wheeling and dealing is done, the National Basketball Association is set to embark upon its season with a full slate of marquee games on Christmas day.

And since the Association represents probably the most interesting, compelling, and downright fun set of characters, storylines, and athletes in professional sports today, the HR Happy Hour show in partnership with The 8 Man Rotation, (Kris Dunn, Tim Sackett, Matt Stollak, Lance Haun, Steve Boese),  will devote the final show of 2011 to a full-on, no lame attempts to tie sports back to work or HR, preview of the upcoming season.

What will the late start, short training camps, and compressed schedule mean for the league? What teams made the sharpest moves in the off season? What clubs are ready to win now? What teams might just surprise this year? What players are on the decline and who is on the rise?

The teams, the players, and the predictions for the NBA in 2012 - you will hear it all and more on the HR Happy Hour Show this week.

The NBA - this week on the HR Happy Hour. It will be a fun departure for the show this week and I hope you will join us!

Yes, ANOTHER show about sports...

You can learn all you need to know about recruiting, talent management, effective team dynamics, managing star performers, aligning compensation with performance, and succession planning from studying the history of the National Basketball Association.

Don't believe it?

Where else but in big-time sports can you see the effects of talent assessment, recruiting, leadership, and employee engagement played out again and again, in public, under the spotlight, every day of the year?

What players to draft, which ones to develop, which ones to cut loose, and how to build the right mix of personalities and talent to achieve team goals are the primary concern of all sports franchises, and quite honestly, they are the same concerns of organizations in all types of industries.

Sure, you might think this show is an excuse for Steve to assemble a bunch of his friends to talk about sports, and you'd be partially right. But sports offers a lens to most the of most critical issues you deal with every day in HR, Recruiting, and Management, so this week we'll try to make the connection. And we will also talk about the Final Four, the NBA Playoffs, and Moneyball.

Joining us on the show will be The 8 Man Rotation dream team - Kris Dunn, Lance Haun, Tim Sackett, and Matt 'akaBruno' Stollak.

It should be a great show and I hope you will join us as well!

Preview - Episode 45 - 'Social Recruiting, Sports, and Upside'

Make that Tremendous Upside.

Everywhere I look, I see upside Everywhere I look, I see upside

This week on the HR Happy Hour show we will talk sports.  I know, I hear the collective groan from the audience.  Sports? Again?

Well, yes.

HR Happy Hour - Episode 45 - 'Social Recruiting, Sports, and Upside' - Thursday May 13, 2010 8PM EDT  - Call in 646-378-1086

Sports are a perfect forum for the analysis, dissection, and perhaps even better understanding of all things talent.  From talent assessment in the form of scouting and drafting, to training and development in the college ranks and minor leagues, to dealing with the intricacies of team and organizational dynamics with stars, role players, ans the constant pressure of balancing team and individual goals, sports has everything an HR or Talent pro could ask for. Besides, what is more fun that a bunch of friends sitting around talking about sports?

A guess a bunch of friends sitting around talking about sports in Las Vegas.  But we will get to that.

We will also talk about the upcoming Social Recruiting Summit (a Summit? Sounds big-timey), set for May 17, 2010 in Minneapolis. Maybe while the boys are in Minny, they can get KG and Stephon reunited.

Joining us will be Kris Dunn, the HR Capitalist and the Chair for the Social Recruiting Summit; Lance Haun, Community Director for ERE, Tim Sackett, writer at the Fistful of Talent and big shot in HR and Recruiting, and the Professor, Matt 'akaBruno' Stollak.

It should be a fun show.
