This week on the HR Happy Hour Show join host Steve Boese as the show hits the road with our second ever broadcast live from Canada - this time from the Toronto offices of innovative technology solutions provider Rypple.

Rypple is setting out to change the conversation about feedback, goal setting and tracking,  and performance management in the workplace through an exciting technology platform designed to make feedback more frequent, interactive, social, and relevant.

We will be joined by Rypple Co-CEO Daniel Debow, and Rypple VP of Sales David Priemer for an engaging hour talking about how organizations are attempting to address one of the most critical and ongoing challenges in the workforce - how to better align goals, keep people on track, give them the coaching and support they need, and create a culture of openness, recognition, and shared commitment.

We will also have some time to to talk about tech start-up culture, why Silicon Valley is not the only exciting place in the tech world, and if it is true that Canada is on a slow march towards global domination.

It will be a fun show , all the road trip shows are, and I hope you can join us.

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show join host Steve Boese and special guest co-host Fran Melmed as we welcome Shape Up the Nation co-founder Dr. Rajiv Kumar to the show to talk about how taking a more social approach to health and wellness is impacting how organizations think about and deploy organizational wellness initiatives.

We all know that health care costs continue to trend upward, organizations are straining to meet the needs of their employee's medical and benefit costs as well as hold the line on expenses. Increasingly organizations are looking at more innovative and socially oriented approaches to make wellness programs more successful and sticky.

Can adding social components to corporate wellness programs make a difference? How can companies get these programs off the ground? What are some of the keys to success? What are the barriers?

I hope you can join Steve, Fran and Rajiv as we talk about 'Taking Wellness Social'.

How To Listen to the HR Happy Hour Show

We have been doing the HR Happy Hour Show for over two years, more than 100 episodes, and still quite often we have to explain to folks what the show is about, and perhaps more importantly, how to actually listen to the show.

I sort of understand the confusion on the part of people unfamiliar with 'live' Internet streamed radio - we all know what regular radio is, and just about everyone understands the notion of a podcast by now, but still live-streamed Internet radio is not quite yet universally understood.

So in the interests of public service, and in hopes of connecting with some new listeners, here is a quick primer on the HR Happy Hour Show, how to listen to the show live, how to listen to archives of past shows, and how to get the show in the iTunes store.

What is the HR Happy Hour Show?

The HR Happy Hour Show is a weekly BlogTalkRadio (the leading service for live-streamed radio shows), show that covers topics in Human Resources, Talent Management, Leadership, HR Technology, HR Conferences and Events, Social Media in the Workplace, Recruiting - essentially anything and everything having to do with people in the workforce. Finding them, hiring them, managing them, leading them, giving them the right tools and technologies to succeed and everything in between. The show debuted in May 2009, and as of the date of this post, 104 Episodes have been broadcast. It is a fun, lively, energetic, and hopefully informative resource for the HR community and beyond.

You can also connect with the show and stay updated about upcoming shows on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. During the live shows, a big part of the fun is following and participating on the Twitter backchannel, the hashtag is #HRHappyHour.

    When is the show broadcast?

The show's normal broadcast day/time is Thursday evenings at 8PM Eastern Time. Occasionally there will be special broadcasts on site from HR conferences or events that can be on different days or times, but Thursdays at 8PM is the normal show time.

How do I listen to the show live?

There are really only two ways (both simple) to listen to the show during the live broadcast.

Method 1 - Listen Live from the Show's Home or Episode Pages on BlogTalk Radio.

The show home page is fixed at:

    www.blogtalkradio.com/steve-boese

and each individual Episode has it's own unique Episode Page that will look something like this:

    www.blogtalkradio.com/steve-boese/2011/05/13/hr-happy-hour--episode-99--new-tech-for-recruiting

Going to either the show home page, or that week's Episode page when the show is being broadcast live will either give you a 'LIVE NOW' link to click to listen, or simply the show will start playing on your computer speakers.

Method 2 - Call in to the Listener/Guest Line which is 646-378-1086

During the show you can listen by calling in to the Listener/Guest line, 646-378-1086.  The show uses the same number for all callers, be they guests, on-air callers, or listeners. If you call in during the show, and want to come on the air to ask a question or make a comment, just press '1' on your phone, and you will be placed in queue to come on the air. We encourage and welcome as many folks as possible to call in and engage in the conversation. If you just want to listen, that is great, just don't press '1' and we will not open up your line.

How do I listen to the replays of past shows?

All of the past 100 or so Episodes are still accessible from the show home page on BlogTalkRadio. Scrolling a bit down that page will reveal a section titled 'On-Demand Episodes' and some simple sorting criteria to help locate specific shows. There are also blog posts about just about all the shows on this site that include an embedded audio player widget that will also allow you to replay an individual episode.  Shows are archived and available for replay about 20 minutes after the live broadcast completes. I am working a better classification/listing setup for this site as well that will make searching and listening to archive show easier.

How do I get the show on iTunes?

All of the HR Happy Hour Shows are ported automatically to the iTunes store as free podcast files. Access the iTunes store and simply search for 'HR Happy Hour' in the Podcast section and you should see past episodes as well as a way to subscribe to the series as a podcast.

Well that's it, everything you need to know to find, listen, replay, download and enjoy the HR Happy Hour Show. This post will also be 'anchored' to the 'How to Listen' menu option at the top of the site.

As we continue to try and expand the show and these types of social platforms in the broader Human Resources community, please do share the show information with other colleagues and friends.

And as always, thanks for listening and supporting the show!

This week we have re-booked author and Fortune Magazine Deputy Managing Editor Hank Gilman to join us to talk about his recent book, 'You Can't Fire Everyone and Other Lessons from an Accidental Manager'. Hank was meant to appear a few weeks back, but a scheduling mix-up got in the way, so we are giving this another try this week.

Hank tells the stories so many of us are familiar with - tales of a star employee suddenly thrust into a position managing others (often former peers), without the first clue as to what to do.

Hiring, firing, rewarding, motivating staff - not easy skills to learn on the fly. In addition to all the other 'management' stuff you suddenly have to deal with.

Hank will share some insights from his career in management and leadership, and hopefully some good advice for the other 'accidental managers' out there.

Tune in Thursday June 9th at 8PM ET for a fun and informative show!
