    OFF TOPIC: Breakfast cereals, ranked

Long week + terrible winter weather + me fighting a bad cold = not much left in the tank for a Friday.

So with that said, I give you the completely biased and unscientific, yet definitive ranking of cold breakfast cereals:

    100. Shredded Wheat

99 - 21. A whole bunch of forgettable and unimportant cereals.

    20. Rice Krispies

    19. Cheerios

    18. Corn Flakes

    17. Rice Chex

    16. Honey Bunches of Oats

    15. Raisin Bran

    14. Life

    13. Golden Grahams

    12. Corn Pops

    11. Cocoa Pebbles

    10. Apple Jacks

    9. Alpha-Bits

    8. Honey Smacks

    7. Frankenberry

    6. Lucky Charms

    5. Frosted Flakes

    4. Wheaties

    3. Count Chocula

    2. Froot Loops

    1. Cap'n Crunch

    Have a great weekend!

Solid list but you've missed an important part of the judging... Hard or Soft... this list is split in two depending on whether I want soft(er) cereal or hard(er) cereal. Look back at the list... Lucky Charms, Honey Smacks and Cocoa Pebbles are examples of soft(er) cereals. So, if I want soft(er) I go down one path. If I want hard(er) I go down another.

Simply said... good list but more research and analysis needs to be conducted.

You need to add a "roof of mouth shredding" score to then use as a weighting mechanism against flavor. I love the Capt'n - not fond of the amount of skin he exacts from the roof or my mouth when done with breakfast. Can't eat it every day if you ever hope to heal.

You guys are over thinking this. Can I invoke America's finest actor Mr. Tom Cruise in Top Gun here? 'If you think up there you lose' or something like that.

I see a couple flaws with the list. First, Grape Nuts is not on the list and should be #1. Second, Corn Flakes are not eaten as real cereal, are they? I think moms just buy it to cook with. Last, Rice Chex is also not used as cereal, is it? Don't people just mix that with the other Chex cereals for Chex Mix?

You're also missing Kakshi Strawberry Fields. Yummo!

Sugar Frosted Shredded Wheat is vastly underrated. Also, Sugar Frosted Flakes should be #1 and agree with Trish, Grape Nuts need to be in the top 20.

Trish - Grape Nuts are what Mom fed us when she wanted to punish us as I remember. Your Corn Flakes take could be right though.

John - I am of the mind that taking a horrible, horrible thing like Shredded Wheat and lacing it with some sugar still leaves you with a mostly horrible thing.

Sorry, John...Frosted Flakes are overrated...they get soggy much too quickly to maintain its high ranking.
Cap'n Crunch is inferior to both Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries and Peanut Butter Crunch
    Life should be ranked higher.
Boo Berry always gets ignored when compared to Frankenberry and Count Chocula
Quisp, King Vitamin, and Kashi GoLean Crunch should be in the top 20.
    Lucky Charms is top 3
Apple Cinnamon Cheerios is superior to the original
Cinnamon Toast Crunch is also missing

Very astute comments Professor. Cinnamon Toast Crunch not in the top 20 is an outrage.

I see you're still into eating healthy, Steve. When is the McRib scheduled to make its appearance?
