This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, we were joined by Paul Rubenstein, Chief People Officer at Visier, for a conversation on new ways of thinking about workforce planning, learning agility and reskilling, and avoiding the headcount trap, when planning for the people and skills needed for the future. Traditional, headcount driven workforce planning needs to be reimagined to meet the dynamic and evolving needs of the business, and to help organizations prepare to address skills and capability gaps. We also talked about the importance of learning agility - both from an organizational and HR viewpoint, as well as with individual learners.
Additionally, we talked about transitioning to an HR leadership role from a consulting and business leader role, and how that experience helps shape your role in HR.

While I appreciate the focus on evolving workforce planning and learning agility, I wonder if solely emphasizing skills and headcount overlooks the importance of foundational values and character development in young employees. Perhaps a broader approach, considering societal factors influencing the current workforce, is needed alongside these strategies. Neglecting that element could lead to unintended consequences of what we are seeing of today, resulting from Bad Parenting.
That's an interesting perspective on learning agility and skills gaps! While structured training programs are valuable, I wonder if over-reliance on them might stifle innovation and intrinsic motivation. Could a more flexible, self-directed learning approach, even with some risk, ultimately foster greater adaptability and passion? Just a thought, perhaps stemming from, well, perhaps bad parenting
