#HRevolution 2012 Preview

The 5th installment of the HRevolution (Un)Conference for Human Resources, Recruiting, and Talent Professionals is set for this coming Sunday, October 7, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. Since 2009, HRevolution has been creating unique opportunities for HR professionals, recruiters, consultants, and vendors to come together to discuss and debate the future of HR.

Once again, the HRevolution has partnered with the HR Technology Conference, to be held October 8-10, also in Chicago, to offer HRevolution attendees a fantastic discount for the big HR Tech event of the year, for folks attending both events.

If you have not yet purchased your ticket to HRevolution, there is still time to get in, visit the registration page here to get started.

I have had the great pleasure and honor to be a member of the HRevolution organizining team since the beginning, and I can say with great confidence that this year's event is shaping up to be our best yet.

Have a look at the agenda here - littered with some of the sharpest thinkers and most innovative HR and Talent people in the space, the kinds of smart, interesting, and connected people that you simply have to get to know. Folks like Bret Starr, Gerry Crispin, Alexandra Levit, Laurie Ruettimann, the Talent Anarchy team, and your hero Tim Sackett just to name a few.

But beyond the 'formal but not really formal' sessions, consistently the best aspect of HRevolution is the connections that are made within and across the community of people that while having many different roles and positions in the industry, are united in their common desire to make business, HR, and workplaces, and themselves better.

The HRevolution is an entirely bootstrapped, volunteer event made possible by the incredible commitment and generosity of a few important and fantastic organizations - our sponsors and partners.

We are so thankful for the tremendous support of the following HRevolution 2012 sponsors:

Aquire - The leading solution provider for workforce planning and analytics solutions, and importantly a long time supporter of the HR community via HRevolution and the HR Happy Hour Show

Ceridian - A Human Resources and Payroll solutions provider and a past sponsor of HRevolution that we are honored to have with us again in 2012

Pinstripe - A global RPO provider that has shown amazing support in the past not only for HRevolution, but for the HR and Recruiting industry as a whole - fantastic people that really believe in what they do.

SilkRoad - A leading provider of social, cloud-based talent management solutions for functions like Recruiting and Onboarding. We are really happy to welcome them to the HRevolution family.

We on the HRevolution team are truly grateful for your support!

Tonight on the HR Happy Hour Show, (streaming live starting at 8:00PM ET here), we will spend the hour talking about a revolution, the HRevolution that is. We will be joined by members of the organizing team, session leaders, sponsors, and attendees to preview and collectively begin the countdown to what is for many of us, our favorite event of the year.

If you are planning to attend HRevolution, either as a veteran, or as a first-timer, I encourage you to tune-in to the HR Happy Hour Show tonight, and even better, to call in on 646-378-1086 and share with us why you make time in your busy lives to attend HRevolution.

Lastly, I have to thank and recognize the other members of the HRevolution team, a wonderful group that I am proud to be associated with - Trish McFarlane, Ben Eubanks, and Matt 'akaBruno' Stollak. Once again, an amazing team to work with.

Hopefully I will see lots of you in Chicago on Sunday and on the Happy Hour Show tonight!

After a long summer break, the HR Happy Hour Show returns live tonight at 8:00PM ET, with a laser focus on the things that matter most to the world of HR, Talent, and the Workplace.

Of course I am talking about sports.

This week the HR Happy Hour Show returns from a long summer hiatus, tanned, trim, and rested, and ready to once again take on the important issues facing the workplace, Human Resources, and Talent Management.

Of course that means another sports show!

Seriously though, here in the USA there are several compelling sports-themed stories that are not only impacting the sports world, but also have wider and larger implications for Talent and HR professionals in any field.

Take a quick scan of the sports news today, and you'll likely see stories on:

The NFL labor impasse with its on-field officials, which has led to a lockout, replacement (scab) officials, and a noticeable deterioration of the quality of officiating, and some would argue, the actual product.

The NHL, also stuck in a labor battle, this one pitting the league against its own players. Another lockout, another potential situation for replacement labor, or even an entire season cancellation.

A major college football power, Arkansas, that fired its former, (successful) coach after an off field scandal, only to replace him with another high-profile coach who is in the middle of a personal bankruptcy and may be coming a little unhinged.

Finally, Notre Dame absolutely embarrassing Michigan State last week.

So tonight we will open up the lines to talk sports, labor, talent, what you did all summer, and more, all in the HR Happy Hour style.

I hope you can join us as we relaunch the show tonight!

#HRHappyHour Show Update - Summer Hours

Quick update for listeners of the HR Happy Hour Show, the weekly internet radio show and podcast on Human Resources, talent management, recruiting, workplace technology, and the HR marketplace that I have been hosting for the last 3 years or so. The show, normally broadcasts live via BlogTalkRadio at 8:00PM ET every Thursday, and to date we have done 144 shows covering anything and everything related to the world of work and the practice of people management.

After 144 shows, and in light of an upcoming really busy personal, work, and travel schedule the rest of this month, and quite honestly for me to take some time to think about the show, and consider how I'd like to see it evolve in the future, I am putting the show on 'summer hours' until the Fall.

Specifically, I plan on doing new and live shows only on the first Thursday of each month for the summer months, (June, July, August), with the plan to re-launch the show again in September 2012, perhaps looking and feeling a little bit different than it has been up to this point. The next live show will take place on Thursday, June 7, 2012, and will feature a few long-time friends and former guests and will definitely be one to make sure you catch live.

I plan on using this little break from producing live shows every Thursday night to figuring out what I'd like to see happen with the show in the Fall, to sitting in airport lounges waiting to catch flights, and to spend the occasional couple of hours tending my barbecue. I will probably re-play some of the past shows in the Thursday 8PM time slot, in case anyone would like to get caught up on some shows they have missed during the show's run.

I still like doing the show, it is still fun and informative to get a chance to talk with and learn from our guests, callers, and listeners, and I do plan on coming back strong, (if in a slightly different format), in the Fall.

Many, many thanks to the long-time friends and fans of the show and I look forward to playing my small part in adding to the conversations around HR, talent, people, and the workplace in the months to come.

So to sum it up - catch the next live HR Happy Hour Show on Thursday, June 7, 2012, and then look for new live shows the first Thursday of the month for the balance of the Summer. As I sort out the ongoing plans and schedules, I will be sure to update this blog, Twitter, the HR Happy Hour Facebook page, and the HR Happy Hour LinkedIn group.

Thanks for the indulgence!

HR Happy Hour Show Tonight: The American Way of Eating

The HR Happy Hour Show is back live tonight at 8PM ET with what should be a really fun show about a topic, eating in America, that at first blush might seem off topic for a show mostly about work, HR, Talent Managment, and technology, (and sports), kinds of subjects.

But I think the show tonight, and talking with tonight's guest, Tracie McMillan, author of the recently published ‘The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebee’s, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table’, will be a great opportunity to learn more about how work, jobs, and the overall circumstance many American workers find themselves in effects that most basic element of life - what, how, and where we eat.

And The American Way of Eating is a look as much about work in America as it is about food in America, and tonight I will talk with Tracie about that dynamic, as well as some of the incredibly fascinating insights into just how that salad you might be eating for lunch today was actually grown, packaged, shipped, retailed, and prepared.

Listen to the show live starting at 8PM ET on the show page here, using the listener call in line 646-378-1086, or on the widget player below:

HR Happy Hour Show Tonight: Gaming Health and Wellness

The HR Happy Hour Show is back live tonight at 8PM ET after a couple of weeks off while I lived the exceedingly glamorous life, (mostly I sat in airports and taxis), with what should be a really fun show about wellness, and more specifically, about how organizations are using gaming principles and gaming technology to drive participation and better outcomes.

Listen to the show live starting at 8PM ET on the show page here, using the listener call in line 646-378-1086, or on the widget player below:

Our guests tonight are Dr. Rajiv Kumar the founder and chief medical officer at ShapeUp, the leading global provider of clinically proven, social networking-based employee wellness programs; and Fran Melmed, the owner of context, an award-winning communication and change management consulting firm that specializes in wellness and health care consumerism.

Some of the topics we will hit upop tonight on the show:

 Common workplace wellness challenges

  • Why wellness can be more than just fun with games
  • How insurers and consumers are adopting health games
  • Why health games are proliferating and succeeding in the workplace.

It should be a fun an interesting show and I hope you can join us!
